Application for Student Interns
ANS student members are encouraged to register for the Student Intern positions. Interns are expected to be at the UWC from 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 9 until 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 12. Submit your completed application as a PDF via email attachment to Sarah Lynn at Sarah.Lynn@luminant.com. Complimentary registration and travel assistance is provided for Student Interns.
Students selected as UWC Student Interns will receive a direct deposit or check in the mail prior to the UWC. A W9 form will be provided by ANS and must be filled out and sent back to ANS before any financial disbursements are made. It will be your responsibility to make your own travel and register for the conference. ANS will make your housing arrangements. Travel, housing, and registration instructions will be sent, it is necessary to book your housing and register according to these instructions. Following the meeting, an expense report with all travel receipts should be sent to ANS HQ, to off-set the travel amount received as you will be taxed on funds received in excess of $600.00.
The deadline to submit your application for the Student Intern positions is Friday, April 10, 2020 or when the student limit for the program has been reached, whichever occurs first. Applications received after this deadline may be accepted at the discretion of the UWC Organizing Committee. Please note that all student members who are not selected as interns at the conference may attend by paying the appropriate student registration and hotel fees. We advise booking your hotel room as soon as the block opens, as the hotel does sell out!
If selected to work as a Student Intern, additional information will be sent to you by Monday, May 11. If you are accepted to work as a Student Intern, do not register for the meeting until you receive your detailed registration information.
Opportunity for ANS-YMG and NAYGN Members!
The ANS Operations and Power Division (OPD) is offering an opportunity for complimentary registration and housing to the American Nuclear Society Utility Working Conference (UWC) and Technology Expo. Upon successful completion of responsibilities, Knowledge Managers will receive complimentary registration and (4) nights housing at the host hotel. You will be required to be at UWC from 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 9 until 3:00 pm on Thursday, August 13.
Knowledge Managers document the recommendations and best practices from the session. The session write-up they produce will then be provided to attendees and functional area managers following the conference. Knowledge Managers are needed for each Technical Track session. Technical Tracks are listed here and on the application.
The Goal of the UWC
An important part of the UWC is knowledge sharing. The goal of the conference is to develop actionable recommendations that professionals at nuclear power plants can put into practice. To do this, the UWC needs Knowledge Managers to take session notes and to assist in development of recommendations. These recommendations come from presentations and discussions at dozens of breakout sessions. The Technical Program Chair distributes the recommendations to the functional area managers across the U.S. Fleet at the conclusion of the conference.
The ANS Operations and Power Division will pay the registration fee for up to 15 Knowledge Managers. Utility personnel will also receive complimentary lodging for (4) nights. Additionally, if you are not already an ANS member, OPD will pay for your initial ANS membership.
To apply, complete the application before Friday, April 17, 2020. If accepted, you will be notified on or before Monday, May 18, 2020. Registration and housing information will be sent to all accepted Knowledge Managers.
